Pseudo Identification Numbers (PINs) have been assigned by MDM to allow claims to be adjudicated when a Drug Identification Number (DIN) is not available. Generally speaking, DINs are used for the submission of Drugs, whereas PIN's are used when the drug/product has not been assigned a specific DIN, but can still be submitted electronically to a benefit plan. A drug that may have the same DIN can also have various package sizes available. For example: Fragmin is available in syringes of varying volumes, which all share the same DIN, so for identification and billing purposes, PINs are assigned.
